  • Pressing the Point: More on the Wallis debate

    Proof and Persuasion

An important distinction to be made in apologetics is the one between proof and persuasion. One may offer a perfectly sound argument pertaining to some position that accomplishes everything it promises and yet have a recipient of that argument completely unmoved by it. It does not follow from the fact that an individual(s) is allegedly not accepting of an argument that the argument in question does not constitute a proof. On the other hand someone may be presented with a completely invalid and false argument and still be moved to accept the conclusion of the argument, …

  • Debate News

Due to issues encountered with resuming the debate, and an inability to resolve the difficulties posed by the inordinate time taken for the first portion; we’re just going to post the completed portion sometime today. If you haven’t heard, the debate clocked in at an astonishing 8 hours – and we had only reached question 10 in my opponent’s *first* cross-examination period. Since he is unwilling to accept time limitations for the remainder, I think it’s best to just end things here, as he didn’t show up this morning (our time) as invited. If he’d like to submit his remaining …

  • In Preparation for Next Weekend's Debate: Islam's Problem

Courtesy of David Wood, ABN, and AOMin, this video covers most of my points I’m going to bring up. I’m posting it in hope that my opponent will come prepared for the issues I’m going to be raising!

Note: Just something to keep in mind, I obviously won’t appeal to “brute facts” as David does here – but the information is valuable, nonetheless.…

  • Debate In Planning Stage With Mitch LeBlanc of Urban Philosophy

Mitchell LeBlanc is a Philosophy and Religion student at the University of Toronto. Though entering University with intentions to become a priest, he found that philosophical training led him to atheism.

Of the presuppositional apologetic method, Mitch writes:

“The implication is that presuppositionalism is bad philosophy in a manner akin to Young Earth Creationism being pseudo-science. In many regards, it is accurate to say that presuppositionalism is to the philosophy of religion what creationism is to biology.”

Mitch and I have been in contact with each other in order to plan a debate. We cannot guarantee when exactly it will …

  • “Does God Exist?” My Opening Statement (2006)

    Opening Statement
    “Does God Exist?”
    Central Virginia Community College
    February 2006

Thank you all for coming out for the debate and thanks to Alex and Dr. McGee for being willing to help with this. I’d also like to thank my God, in whom we live and move and have our being. I want to make it clear from the start that the God I am talking about today is the God of the Christian scriptures. That’s the only God I care to prove because He is the only God who actually exists. I am happy to join Alex in refuting …
