The Gospel Coalition is running a slightly interesting series called “Reading for worldviews” that I had hoped would prove very insightful. It has, however, been a little bit of a disappointment. The writers seem to reach for more complexity instead of grabbing the book by the horns. The exercise is a good one and one that we as thinking Christians should do as we strive to take every thought captive to Christ and His Lordship. An exercise I have tried to do for years now is watch for worldviews where I will try to keep an eye out for statements …Read more
In a video entitled “Bill Nye: Creationism Is Not Appropriate For Children” released on YouTube by bigthink on August 23, 2012, Bill Nye, known most popularly for his hosting of a children’s science-themed TV show (“Bill Nye the Science Guy”), shares his thoughts on Evolution and, specifically, deniers of evolutionary science. It doesn’t seem to be scripted, and it lasts only 2 minutes and 32 seconds. The video has gained immense popularity in the few days since it was released (“Bill Nye” was #1 in Yahoo!’s search terms when I watched it, almost a week later), and it has been …Read more
Christianity is a process. It is a commitment, a vow, a pledge. It is a complete overhaul and reformation. The creatures of God, created for the purpose of living and breathing the truth and glory of their Creator: that is Christianity. The scandal of this scheme lies in the fact that these creatures have invariably disqualified themselves from fulfilling this purpose, and in fact fulfill only those requirements by which they are justly consigned to eternal retribution. Indeed, these very creatures can never hope to possibly fulfill the purpose for which they were created, themselves.
But God, according to His …Read more
Biblical marriage is between one man and one woman. Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy recently affirmed that statement. As a Christian. In a Baptist publication.
Those who support the homosexual agenda are outraged. Apparently they were unaware that a conservative Christian like Dan Cathy would take that sort of stance. Ignorance is bliss, and in this case it comes with waffle fries. But no more. Even the Aurora shootings were not enough to stop people from whining about “homophobia” and boycotting Chick-Fil-A. Enough on that topic.
What I am more concerned about is the hateful display of polyphobia that those who …Read more
So you’ve played a couple hands with your atheist friend by now. When he plays his 3 tens, you reveal a Full House. Suddenly, on the next hand he has a 2 of hearts, and Jack of spades, a Wild card, and a Level 57 Charizard. You pause, look at him sideways, and he grins back at you, basking in your inability to respond to his awesome play. He’s revealed, so he thinks, a deus ex machina (he seems to have lots of those). It’s a play sure to throw anybody off who isn’t prepared or knowledgeable about the game. …Read more
There are countless angles to take in approaching the somewhat difficult task of teaching covenantal/presuppositional apologetics. What follows may be one of them.
Socrates famously asked, “Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is loved by the gods?” The so-called Euthyphro Dilemma has haunted and warmed the halls of the academy ever since.
The difficulty with answering that the good is willed by God because it is good is that the standard of good in this view exists quite apart from and in superiority to God. God appeals to a …Read more
