Apologetics to the Glory of God

A Weird “Proof”

Someone sent me a link to the following argument.

1.(1) If Calvinism is true, there is no free will
2.(2) The logical problem of evil is defeated only by Plantinga’s Free Will Defense
3.(3) Plantinga’s Free Will Defense requires that there exist free will
4.(4) If Calvinism is true, the logical problem of evil is not defeated
5.(5) If the logical problem of evil is not defeated, God does not exist
6.(6) If Calvinism is true, God does not exist
7.(7) God does exist
8.(8) Calvinism is false
9.(9) Human beings have free will

Lots of problems here.

1. This apparently assumes libertarian free will as the definition of free will. Libertarian free will is self-refuting by the way.
2. Have fun trying to show that the only way to defeat the logical problem of evil is through libertarian freewill. Not only does this universal negative appear extremely difficult to support, but it is false as there is an answer to the problem of evil that is not Plantinga’s.
3. This premise is false as Plantinga’s argument does not require that libertarian free will actually exists but only suggests it as a possibility within the argument.
4. This premise is also not only false, but left unsupported.

I think this is sufficient for now.

    Why is libertarian free-will self-refuting?

The question is: are there sufficient answers to the logical problem of evil that do not require libertarian free will? I’m sure there are loads of answers, but we need coherent ones.

Could you explain your third point?

I’m also curious as to where you got the argument because my understanding is that it’s not complete yet, that is – this is a very preliminary version.

    Cheers.

    Libertarian Dilemma

There are sufficient answers that do not require libertarian free will, but the one making the argument has the burden of proving that there are none anyway.

The actuality of libertarian free will is not needed for Plantinga’s defense to work.

The argument may be found here: http://paste2.org/p/625494

Hey Chris, I just wanted to remind you that I’m still interested in further discussing your claim that I consciously believe in God.

Thanks Nocterro. Same here. Did you want to do this a bit more formally or just the usual blog war way? 🙂 I have been very busy with school but this should be ending within the next week or so.

I’m going to hold back on discussion on the argument until the author finalizes a version and makes some type of online publication. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. =)

I’m just curious as to who sent you the link in the first place.

Blog war, of course 😛 I’m kind of tossing some ideas around in my head, but I’ll wait until you make a post outlining your case.

    (2) The logical problem of evil is defeated only by Plantinga’s Free Will Defense <— oy… talk about a presupposition.

Apparently God did not exist before Plantinga came up with his argument either. 😀
